I am always looking for coolers with excellent build quality and that can maintain ice for longer periods of time. I recently got into "5 day" and "6 day" coolers. This is a review of the Coleman 6-Day 50 Quart Ultimate Xtreme Cooler.



When packing coolers, pre-chilled drinks and cubed ice are used. I use cubed ice because it is convenient, but understand that blocked ice maintain much longer than cubed ice. When tested, the Coleman Ultimate Xtreme Cooler kept ice for 60 hours (2 and a half days). Again, I am mindful that without blocks of ice, I cannot expect a full 6-days of ice retention. The Ultimate Xtreme significantly outperformed the older Coleman 48 Quart Cooler that maintained ice for only 24 hours.



The build of the cooler appears to be good. Looking at the cooler, the lid and walls of the cooler appear extremely well insulated. The lid appears to align decently with the body of the cooler, though the front and center of the lid does not appear airtight. Also, the drainage outlet has no significant "locking" feel as my old Coleman 48 Quart did. I noticed that condensation formed along the drainage outlet of the cooler. This is likely due to less insulation around the outlet. Not a big deal, but an inconvenient one as my wood floor got wet during the testing period.



Something to consider about this cooler is the canal on the inside of the cooler that leads to the drainage outlet. The canal is helpful in allowing any water in the cooler to drain almost completely without the need to tip the cooler. However, when packing the cooler, the cans will not line up easily or nicely due to the concave build on the bottom of the cooler due to the canal. Some people will see it as a plus and some will see it as a minus, I am neutral on this. I would recommend taking a look at the inside of the cooler to get a better picture. However, as a previous review mentioned, it would have been nice for the drainage outlet to be on the opposite side of the cooler due to the towing handle was in the direct path of the draining water. In addition, the long handle is just a tad longer than the bottom of the cooler when at rest, which digs into the ground when you park the cooler. So if you are outside, the tip of the long handle will likely dig into the ground, dirtying your handle.



The insulation appears to be an impressive 2-inches. As a result, you definitely notice this in the weight of the cooler. The cooler is hefty, especially when packed with cans and ice. Thankfully, the wheels on the cooler make transporting it easier and appear to work really well.



Overall, the Coleman 6-Day 50 Quart Ultimate Xtreme Cooler has decent build quality and good performance. This cooler is rated a 4.0 out of 5.0, which could be improved if the lid was better aligned with an airtight closure in the front-center of the lid, a more secured drainage valve, improved position of the drainage valve with respect to the long handle, and a little better performance.

This cooler works great and as advertised. Love the teal color too. We went camping and used this cooler for 6 days without adding extra ice. On the 5th day all ice was gone, however the ice water kept everything very cool. The days got upto 95 degress. Going to buy another one, however it will be much bigger.

We purchased the Coleman Xtreme 50 Qt. and it really DOES keep the ice for 5-6 days. Great addition to the boat! In general, we love it. But, why did Coleman put the petcock for the drain on the same end of the cooler as the long tow handle? If they had just put the drain at the opposite end, one could leave it open and allow it to drain naturally while being towed across parking lots, docks or picnic areas. As it is now, if you want to drain off surplus while it is standing still, you have to lift it by a short handle and bend over while it drains. When loaded, this guy IS heavy...kind of tough on us 'boomers'. Just a thought...Carol Johnson - Morganton, GA

Having 2 handles on the sides made it extremely difficult to carry across the sand when you also were carrying other stuff. We took rope and tied to both side handles to make a strap to carry. They will replace the liner but then don't carry the same COOLER, so they send you a CHEAP cooler that they don't even sell, it is back up cheap merchandise. I bought the 72 can cooler and both leaked, they sent me a a very mall, half the size cooler. It was without their relective silver, that is supposed to keep things extra cold. This cooler is perfect for camping with our pop-up. It keeps food cold for at least five days with the original bag of ice! We use the plastic freezer blocks instead of ice for keeping perishables fresh, but the ice we do buy for drinks, stays pretty much frozen for about 4 days. No literature with it. Was scratched - deeply on lid - dirty and smelled of food inside. There was no literature from Coleman, i.e., warranty etc., and clearly been used. Must have been returned to Amazon by someone else and they sold it to me as new. This is really disappointing for Amazon to do this to me. We have learned from this experience not to trust Amazon for anything expensive or delicate, especially electronics.

I dislike this cooler very much! I just spent $30 in ice for a 5 day camping trip. The cooler already had ice and cold beverages in it from the day before and I put only cold beverages in it and filled it with ice. The weather was cool most of the time and only in the 50s at night. I had to replace the hinges this summer and have to be very gentle with the lid.

A generic product apparently for all Igloo chests so you can expect to have some extra parts and some mismatches. Our broken latch was replaced with one of these and it did not match the one good one remaining on the cooler. It did fit, however, so I guess it'll be fine. Kit DOES come with replacement screws, 4 hinges, 2 latches and latch buttons and 2 different drain fittings. There are no directions, but installation is straight forward.

Well I agree with another post. The hinges on the Igloo coolers seem to break quite often esp newer model single piece style hinge. I just ordered this kit and fix two of my coolers. I wish Igloo still makes the old style pinned hinge instead of a piece of plastic. I have an old Igloo cooler with pinned hinge and it never breaks while I have to fix two of newer coolers' hinges. Another issue is the latch is not identical as the original. The original latch has the screws behind the latch while the new one has them exposed. I guess it's not that of a big deal since the kit comes with stainless screws. The price is excellent, if I have to purchase all the parts separately they could have cost me well over $20 instead of $13.

The jury still seems to be out on whether or not a laptop cooler is necessary but I have made up my mind.

I have a 17" HP dv7-1285dx and it gets extremely hot. Just received this from Amazon and after several hours the external temperature is cool which normally wouldn't be the case without the cooler.



Pros: High quality construction. Feels solid. Whisper quiet, even with the fans turned all the way up they can barely be heard. I use this not only on my desk while working there, but also in my lap. When using on my lap I have it sitting on my Logitech Comfort Lapdesk. Using both of these items puts the keyboard at a perfect height for me and again laptop extremely cool.



Cons: None at this moment.



So if you are considering a laptop cooler this one is a little more expensive but I dont believe you can find a better thought out, constructed cooler.

It fits my Dell 17" perfectly and works very well.



Pros:

Very quiet



Cons:

Not very travel friendly (not good for lap use)

High price (but high quality)



I would recommend this for use at your desk/table at your home/office, but not for traveling or lap use.

The Zalman NC2000 is a great purchase. I have an ASUS G51J gaming laptop that runs extremely hot without any assistance. The CPU/GPU run at 55/75 degrees Celsius idle, and 57/82 running Crysis on medium settings. With the NC2000, the temperatures run at 52/67 idle and 53/75 loaded. It is more portable than one would think. I highly recommend this product to anybody interested. Plus, it is eligable for free shipping.

excellent cooler for my DV6..... gives you back a USB port for the one it takes, and actually makes a difference.... I installed speedfan and monitored the core temps with and without the cooler running.... keeps it at or around 30C. Only one problem with design I see is the intake fans are directly on the middle of the bottom (right where your legs go if its on your lap) so you kinda have to modify the way you sit if its an actual "lap"top for you. The plastic bottom really wasn't an issue for me.

This cooling pad is everything it claims to be. I keep it on the highest setting for cooling, as my HP gets really hot. I do have to set the laptop arranged just so on the pad so the fans can reach the hot spots. Also put a piece of cardboard across the back bottom, (1)to keep my legs from choking out the fans and (2) the edges of the pad are uncomfortable straight on my legs. I consider these to be minor issues because I am more concerned about frying the computer. This cooler is more than capable for cooling and very quiet. I researched A LOT and so far I know I made the best choice.
